Weekend wanderings
Loot
One of my achievement objectives for our trip to Wellington was to visit the op shopping mecca of Putaruru, where 10 cent fabric nestles next to jars of marmalade. I wasn't disappointed. I left town with:
Probably a good thing the op shops of Levin had closed by the time we got there!
A skirt that wouldn't look out of place on Miami Vice. The waist is only about big enough to fit around my leg, but it has...potential.
A gorgeous pillowcase that is crying out to be made into an obi kind of belt. Or left as a pillowcase.
Two giant pieces of grey fabric that were 10 cents each. I'll probably make them into a dress to match...my other grey dress.
A suit (this is just the waistcoat of it) for Mr Millicent Crow. This is his second Putaruru blue suit. Who said I'm the only one that owns multiples of all my outfits?
The gaudiest togs. I was very restrained and didn't buy the other 3 pairs of gaudy togs. I wonder if these were worn in a beauty pageant by Miss Putaruru 1971?

Outdoor pianos
There's something awfully romantic about outdoor pianos, don't you think? The deserted main street of Mangaweka seems the perfect place for one; you could play it while the getaway car sped off into the night, as pistols were drawn or as people chased each other comically around the balcony of the saloon. Here are a couple of my favourite outdoor pianos:
This one's closer to home, just down the road from me in Auckland.
If you like outdoor pianos as much as I do, you may like this post by Mr Millicent Crow, featuring an outdoor piano in Berlin...

Whirlwind Wellington Whanganui weekend
Mr Millicent Crow and our friend John White have been on tour, and I decided to go along for the ride for the lower North Island part, so I've just got back from a fleeting trip to Wellington and W(h)anganui (we didn't reach a consensus on the 'h'). I think Whanganui warrants a whole extra trip just to take photos - we arrived at dusk and left in a mad rush the next morning, and we decided it would be a great place for an art residency. As for the rest of the weekend, there was music, there was visiting, there were delicious dinners, there was a trip to Somes Island, there was a present of an unexpected painting (that a friend gave me in Whanganui) and there was driving, driving, driving. And of course some photos...
I'm taking Millicent Crow on the road in December - I'm going to have a stall at Craft Country Wairarapa in Greytown on December 11...watch this space!

Leaving town
GIF animations generator gifup.com
We're leaving town for a few days, heading to Wellington & Whanganui. On the drive down tomorrow I'm hoping to feed some Canada geese, take in the op shopping sights of Putaruru and drink coffee from a thermos. Hopefully it'll be a gold star day!

Victoriana
I love this kind of Victorian style of picture - children who look like dolls, cats that wear clothes, floral wreaths, that kind of thing. I'm not really sure what it's called...Victoriana? Here are some of my favourites:
And here are some flowers that wouldn't look out of place in a Victorian wreath...
