My creative space: in progress

I've been a busy bee this week, making things for my stall at the Auckland Art and Craft Fair this Saturday.  On the go today I've got:

 

Pouches with giant feathers and smaller ones with leaves

 Piles of printed fabric waiting to be turned into pouches

 And fabric brooches waiting for brooch backs. 

I'm also putting the finishing touches on a drawing of a magpie, racing to finish my new zine.  How about you, what have you been making?

Pouchosaurus

 The newest addition to my growing stash of pouches...with a dino patch made from an old t shirt from the op shop.  I have this really tacky horse patch cut from another old t shirt and I've been hoarding it for about a decade...I wonder if I could finally use it in a similar way. 

It's got a starry lining too!

My creative space: Printed pouches

 Remember this fabric I printed a couple of weeks ago?  I chopped it up and I've been making it into yet more pouches.  They've been a bit of a learning curve - I realised the calico I made them out of wasn't quite strong enough, so I've backed it with interfacing. It's been fun playing with the positioning of the pattern on the pouch. 

 These ones have both got starry linings.

I've also been playing around with adding patches to them.  Here's one with a swallow patch.

My creative space: dots on sticks brooch

I've been playing round with the new fabric I've printed from this screen, and I decided to make one of the motifs from it into a brooch. 

 

Here it is on my coat - I think it'll be a good replacement for this brooch, which I lost in Dunedin earlier in the year.   Today I've also been stitching up some dinosaur patches and I've got plans for a pouch sewing bee.  Hope you're having a good Thursday!

Inspiration

I love looking at other people's inspiration boards so I thought I'd give you a peek at mine - it's a new addition to my wall and is providing a home for some of the bits and pieces that have been covering every surface of my room...

I think I might need one for every wall!

Printed

 I tried out my new silk screen the other day and this is the fabric I printed - a piece of calico about the size of a sheet.  It was fun printing the repeating pattern, although I did have a bit of printing rage trying to print the repeat pattern in a small corner of my bedroom!  Now, what to make with it?  I'm thinking totes, pouches, and a few brooches?

Here are a couple of shots of my new silk screen that I picked up today - I had it made up from this image that I drew a while back.  Can't wait to test it out and make my own printed fabric!

They're multiplying...

After making this pencil case I made a whole lot more - I've been experimenting with using different patches and more than one patch to decorate them...

 

These ones are all lined with polka dotty cotton - I'm eyeing up some gingham in my fabric stash for lining the next ones I make.

Might have to bust out the rotary cutter tonight and cut out a few more!
