My creative space: canvas and polka dots

Morning!  At the op shop a while back I found a giant treasure trove of zips and bought a whole lot of them.  I've been making lots of small zippered pouches, but none of the zips were small pouch size, so I decided to have a go at making a bigger, pencil case-sized pouch.  It brought back memories of the last time I made a pencil case...a hideous orange padded nylon one in sewing class at Intermediate school.  This one's made of canvas and I sewed one of my swallow patches onto it.
I've got at least 10 more red zips so I might have to get a production line happening!

Next up this morning I'm going to Albany to get an image I've designed transferred onto a silk screen, exciting!

And again...

Another go at drawing these pesky teaspoons - I think that's the third time in a row I've drawn the same ones.  This time I used a bit of coloured pencil as well as paint - I've just rediscovered those watercolour coloured pencils, they're lots of fun.
As you can see I've been using plenty of souvenir teaspoons in real life, too!

Millicent Crow at the Auckland Art and Craft Fair

Millicent Crow is going to be at the Auckland Art and Craft Fair next month!  It's on the 28th of July in the Aotea Centre; the Auckland Art and Craft Fair button over to your right there will take you to the details.  Looking forward to it, better fire up the gocco and the sewing machine!

Playing with patterns

I'm borrowing my sister's computer this weekend and having a play with making patterns in Photoshop.  I'm making patterns from some drawings I did a while back - they're similar to some of the stamps I've made to use on fabric.  I'm hoping to turn a design like this into a silk screen so that I can make fabric with a repeating pattern...

Jetsam

The crab claw that I was working on the other day was part of a little collection I've been drawing:
It's a few things I found washed up on this beach in Napier:

It's for my zine I'm working on...which I think I have nearly finished the drawings for.  Now I just have to work out how to draw a magpie for the final page!

Deco details

We just got back from a Queen's Birthday jaunt to Wellington, Napier and Gisborne, and as we were leaving Napier we happened upon this wonderful art deco building.  It has the most beautiful details:
With its curved entranceway and pastel colours it reminded me of a seashell.  Next time I'll have to go during the week and take a look inside!

My creative space: incidental drawing

I feel like I've had to steal time to draw lately, so I've been sketching in strange places.  Today when I was having my Thurdsay day off coffee in my local cafe, I had a crab's claw sitting on the table to sketch.  It'll be handy for the zine I'm working on.
I finished it off in the laundromat.

I drew these kowhai leaves early one morning when I was watching Mr. Millicent Crow play on the bFM breakfast show:

Then I gave them a lick of paint at home.

And the other day when I felt like I'd been unusually restrained in the op shop I drew a list of the things I didn't buy that day, also over a cup of coffee:

One thing I did buy from the op shop that day though was this cake stand.  I'm going to use it on my stall, for displaying brooches or patches.

Isn't she a beauty?

Happy Thursday to you!
