My creative space: giant embroidery hoop

A year or so ago I found, in an op shop, the biggest embroidery hoop I'd ever seen:
I've finally got around to using it - I've screen printed some giant feathers and used it to frame them...might need a bit more ironing methinks!
Here are the feathers up close

Commemorative

More teaspoon drawing...they still need a bit of tweaking.  I'll have to resist the urge to add to my collection when I'm gallivanting around the North Island this weekend!

My creative space: spoons

You know those old commemorative teaspoons that are always kicking around op shops, their silver plating a bit chipped and the holidays they were bought on long forgotten?  I collect them sporadically (we've got a few royal family ones in the kitchen including a great '80s Fergie one) and lately I've been painting them for my collections zine that I'm slowly working on.

The two on the top left are still in progress...
Here they are in real life

I love Thursdays, they're my day off so I usually take myself out for a coffee to celebrate.  And my local cafe always serves their coffee with old commemorative teaspoons too.  I might pop up there right now!

Blue sky, blue water

A few snaps from my Sunday - going to get my morning coffee, admiring the fountain after my afternoon swim, a chilly beachside stroll in the evening.  Followed by a hearty bowl of soup and too many episodes of The Office, a great Sunday recipe!

Collage

I made this collage the other day from cut up magazines, an old musical score, some watercolours and ink.  It's all stuck together on a piece of watercolour paper.  I would really love to have a spotty black and white rabbit like that one day, preferably one like this that's the size of a small dog!

My creative space: provenance

In my creative space this week I've got some more zipper pouches - I've been having fun using my old scraps to line them.  This feather one, which I made as a present, has a polka dotty lining made from the leftovers from this dress.

And this one here with the swallow patch, has a lining made from this giant kaftan thing...which was also reincarnated as a skirt.
Now that I've got my sewing machine back I've been eyeing up this fabric in my stash, which I think used to be a tablecloth.
I'm hoping I've got enough for a dress, a skirt...and a zippered pouch!

My creative space: reunited

Thankfully my sewing machine survived its accident - I picked it up from the repairers last week with a warning: "It's a very good machine...as long as you don't go dropping it again!"  Today was the first day I've had a chance to use it since, and I whipped up a little zippered pouch to test it out:
I used one of my screen printed fabric patches to decorate the outside - I've got a whole lot of these that I made before I started strengthening them with interfacing...this might be a good way to use them up.
I'm getting a bit of a collection!  They are quite addictive to make.

Self portrait with Crockett hat

I had fun wearing this Crockett hat on the weekend - perched on the back of the couch it looks like a particularly docile cat.  This is a synthetic one but there's a picture of me wearing the real thing here!

My creative space: lunchtime drawing

I've been trying to squeeze in a bit of drawing in my lunch breaks this week, so I've been taking my sketchbook to work and collecting leaves to draw when I get a chance:

I worked on this drawing in stages
 Finished it at home

And trapped some more leaves in my sketchbook to use later on.

How about you, when do you steal moments to make things?

A sneaky rainbow

I found this rainbow on a lunchtime walk yesterday, turning an ordinary hedge into a brightly coloured one.
Then it tried to hitch a ride away on a nearby van!
